What does AARBAA do in Montana?

AARBAA Montana files comment on cycling conduct along Going-to-the-Sun Road, US-2 over Marias Pass, and the Beartooth Highway, and petitions the Montana Department of Transportation for enforcement review. Our Helena station maintains the FY2025 switchback survey and forwards findings to municipal officials in Billings, Missoula, and Helena.

How many members does the Montana chapter have?

Our Montana chapter currently has 176 dedicated members across 2 local chapters. We're one of the active state chapters in the national AARBAA network, and our membership continues to grow as more Montana residents recognize the need for safer roads and accountability in cycling infrastructure planning.

What are the main road safety challenges in Montana?

Montana's caseload concentrates on the Beartooth Highway switchbacks, the Going-to-the-Sun Road seasonal window, and the US-2 shoulder over Marias Pass, where the Helena station recorded 2.1 unlogged switchback pauses per climb in FY2025. Winter closures along the I-90 corridor remain under review.

What victories has AARBAA Montana achieved?

Our closed files include the Beartooth Highway Switchback Advisory of 2024 and the US-2 shoulder review at Marias Pass. Both are held under Records Retention Schedule 7 and available at the public counter on Form AAR-101.
