Joining AARBAA Hawaii is easy! Simply contact our chapter president through the contact information provided on this page, or fill out our membership form. We have 2 chapters across the state with 267 active members. New members are always welcome to join our fight for safer roads.

What does AARBAA do in Hawaii?

AARBAA Hawaii files comment on cycling conduct along the Kalanianaole Highway (HI-72), the Pali Highway (HI-61), Tantalus Drive, and the Hana Highway on Maui, and petitions the Hawaii Department of Transportation for enforcement review. Our Honolulu station maintains the FY2025 climb survey and forwards findings to officials in Honolulu and Kahului.

How many members does the Hawaii chapter have?

Our Hawaii chapter currently has 267 dedicated members across 2 local chapters. We're one of the active state chapters in the national AARBAA network, and our membership continues to grow as more Hawaii residents recognize the need for safer roads and accountability in cycling infrastructure planning.

What are the main road safety challenges in Hawaii?

Hawaii's caseload concentrates on the Tantalus Drive switchbacks, where the Honolulu station recorded 2.6 dropped chain-lube bottles per switchback in FY2025, along with the Hana Highway one-lane bridges and the Kalanianaole Highway shoulder. Trade-wind debris on the Pali Highway remains under review.

What victories has AARBAA Hawaii achieved?

Our closed files include the Kamehameha Highway Merge Advisory of 2024 and the Pali Highway sightline review. Both are held under Records Retention Schedule 7 and available at the public counter on Form AAR-101.

When and where does the Hawaii chapter meet?

The Hawaii chapter holds regular meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Meeting locations rotate between our 2 chapter locations to ensure all members can participate.
